3 easy ways to enjoy fresh Ontario peaches with your favourite products from Rowe Farms
August is one of the best times of year to enjoy fresh Ontario produce. Between the amazing local corn, the ripe tomatoes and fresh garlic, all of those delicious fresh berries and that tasty summer squash, there’s plenty to enjoy (here’s a full list of what’s in season in August). It’s all good, but one piece of produce reigns supreme: Ontario peaches. They’re perfect this time of year, so we’re sharing a list of ways to enjoy them with your favourite Rowe Farms products. If you have any ideas to add to this list, please let us know on Facebook or Instagram! Thanks and enjoy these incredible summer dishes.
Grilled peaches and pork chops
If you love a juicy grilled pork chop, why not throw some fresh summer peaches on the grill as well? It’s a quick and easy way to make those amazing Ontario peaches even sweeter and more delicious, and will take less than ten minutes to prepare. Simply rinse your peaches and slice them in half, removing the pit. Make sure your grill is nice and hot (oil it lightly or use a grill pan), then place your halved peaches with the cut side facing down. Close the lid and let the magic happen! All you need to do is keep an eye on them—when your peaches have heated through and have nice grill marks—usually after just five to ten minutes—they’re ready to enjoy. Even better if you get a little char on them! You can also sprinkle brown sugar or cinnamon on your peaches before grilling—it depends on the flavour profile and level of sweetness you’re aiming for. Serve your peaches and pork with roasted potatoes or grilled asparagus. A great baguette is a nice addition to this meal!
Fresh or grilled peaches on a charcuterie board
The perfect charcuterie board doesn’t exist—oh wait, it does. Start with our high quality cured meats, some local cheese (consider including a tangy goat’s milk cheese and some brie as well as hard cheeses) plus some salted nuts and sliced peaches. It doesn’t matter if they’re fresh or grilled—you can’t lose. If you grill them, consider adding a drizzle of maple syrup or local honey! Peaches are great with soft cheeses and complement many meats, herbs and salty bites. You can also add fresh blueberries, fig jam and other favourites. Put your charcuterie board together with a variety of crackers and/or breadsticks and enjoy it with family for a casual summer meal. This is also a great option when hosting guests!
Summer salad with peaches and protein
You’ve probably had a great steak salad, but have you ever added peaches to it? Try making a fresh summer salad with spinach or mixed greens plus sliced peaches (fresh or grilled), thinly sliced red onions, some roasted nuts or seeds (pumpkin seeds are a great option) and your favourite steak. You can also make this salad with chicken or pork—use whatever you have on hand. Finish this dish with a drizzle of balsamic vinaigrette and little bit of crumbled goat cheese for an indulgent yet nutritious summer meal. It’s great with roasted fingerling potatoes on the side!
