Your guide to a delicious Easter dinner
The Easter Bunny is on his way and in just over two weeks, you’ll be enjoying a delicious holiday meal with your loved ones. Some families have tried and true holiday meals they make year after year, but others are hosting Easter dinner for the first time or looking to switch things up. If you’re mulling over what to serve your family, we’ve got a simple guide to help inspire you. Thanks for shopping local and supporting regenerative food—if you have any questions, please contact us!
Choose your main course
The star of every holiday dinner is typically the main course. For Easter, we suggest a traditional roast turkey or ham, but you can also serve a prime rib roast or other family favourite. It’s perfectly acceptable to serve two different meats—we recommend turkey and ham or turkey and prime rib, but just about anything works if you prepare them well and offer side dishes that complement both proteins. Here’s a quick list of shortcuts to popular main course options from Rowe Farms:
- Whole fresh turkey
- Roast turkey dinner or turkey breast (fully cooked)
- Bone-in ham or boneless ham
If you’re looking for something that’s not on our holiday pre-order site, check out RoweFarmsOnline.ca, visit us in store or call your local Rowe Farms—we’d be happy to help you find everything you need.
Next, select some sides
Delicious side dishes are a holiday must. We recommend starting with a great potato (mashed, baked, scalloped, roasted—whatever works) plus a few different vegetables. Try to offer variety in colour, texture and flavour—for example, roasted brussels sprouts with mashed sweet potatoes and some fresh yellow beans sauteed with garlic. Here are a few easy and delicious recipes to inspire your Easter side dishes:
- Rosemary roasted potatoes via Ina Garten
- Hasselback potatoes by Love and Lemons
- Maple roasted squash with pecans
- Arugula and roasted carrot salad by Ahead of Thyme
- Cheesy leeks via BBC
You’ll also want to plan your stuffing, gravy, ham glazes and other finishing touches at this point as well. These items tie your whole meal together! And remember, you can also order fully prepared side dishes from Rowe Farms including our holiday stuffing, garlic mashed potatoes, herb-roasted root vegetables, glazed heirloom carrots, roasted brussels sprouts and our green beans almondine. It’s all of the taste with a fraction of the work—just heat and serve! Yum.
Fresh bread, good wine and a tasty dessert
Good news—your Easter menu is almost complete! Fresh rolls or a warm baguette is a must for any holiday dinner, so plan accordingly. Then decide what you’re offering for dessert—a pie, a platter of cookies and squares, a scoop of ice cream topped with some chocolate mini eggs—and be sure to have plenty of coffee and tea on hand. If you’re serving alcohol, consider picking up some craft beer and/or local wine before the holiday. If not, grab some sparkling water or non-alcoholic cider. This is going to be a delicious meal!
