4 fun recipes for National Hot Dog Day

Everyone loves a good hot dog, right? They’re a summer classic that reminds you of childhood treats, summer fairs, baseball games, backyard BBQs, camping and other good times. Plus, they’re quick and easy—perfect for busy families on the go!

Here are four fun, delicious ways to dress up your favourite all beef hot dogs, turkeydogs or chicken dogs from Rowe Farms. You might want to have one in celebration of National Hot Dog Day, which is July 20th—enjoy!

Chicago-style

If you’ve been to Chicago, you’ve probably had one of their famous hotdogs. There’s a very specific recipe including mustard, relish, a pickle spear, tomato slices and perhaps most importantly, no ketchup! These are typically made using a beef weiner on a poppyseed bun, but we’ll look the other way if you make substitutions—just don’t tell anyone from Chicago.

Nacho-average hot dog

If you love nachos, turn them into a fun meal! Just load your favourite hot dog with melted cheese, salsa, chopped onions, a bit of fresh cilantro and a handful of crushed tortilla chips. Add fresh or pickled jalapenos for a spicy kick, or a dollop of guacamole for a creamy, smooth finish. If you’re having a party, a hot dog bar with nacho-inspired toppings is always a fun surprise for guests!

BLT(HD)

Your favourite diner dish can also be a tasty hot dog! This easy and delicious topping combination involves bacon, shredded lettuce and diced tomatoes (or ketchup, if you’ve run out of tomatoes). Generously load up your hot dog and dig in—be sure to toast the bun for this one to get the full BLT hot dog experience. This flavour combination is always a hit!

Cheeseburger-inspired

For this delicious dog, you’ll need diced onions, shredded lettuce, sweet pickles, sliced cheddar cheese and your favourite condiments (ketchup, mayonnaise and mustard are ideal). Or, use a bottled “burger sauce” if you have some on hand! Make sure to add the cheese while your hotdog is fresh from the grill so it melts, then add the other toppings and enjoy. Here’s to delicious hot dogs —have a great summer! We hope to see you in store soon.
